Fen will attract many people’s attention and why is that? That’s because instead of going with the stream, the guys choose to write unique music of their own. Aside from the fact that Fen doesn’t play typical black metal (oh, have I mentioned that they are English?), it’s the post rock elements that make the difference and these are inspired from monstrous bands of the genre such as Isis, Cult Of Luna and Neurosis. I don’t know if Fen is the first band that blends black metal with post rock music and truth is that I’m not looking for an answer as I’m not really crazy about post rock. Still regardless of this I find “Ancient Sorrow” a wonderful EP with three interesting and unique tunes. Very powerful and atmospheric debut that all black metal fans should listen to at least once.

P.S.: The lyrics are about the beauty of nature and landscapes while the logo looks like a Celtic symbol. Probably a pagan metal band…
