The Whirlwind
Inside Out

The Supergroup is back. These four huge musicians couldn’t possibly let us down. Neal Morse (ex Spock’s Beard) , Roine Stolt (The Flower Kings), Pete Trewavas (Marillion) – talking about some inspiration this year! – and Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), use their endless talent and the band’s third album is for all to admire. Despite the fact that the album’s themes are not standard Rock or standard Progressive. They are the result of these men technical charisma, which I can not present as I am not a musician myself, it’s their ability to build and perfectly bind all those they wanted to, the things that, for obvious reasons, could not do with their own “basic” bands, which are also huge. I wrote something respective, when presenting another project. This is the essence and reason of existence for such project. At least, this must be the reason.

Even though “The Whirlwind” initially frightened me with ten minute long instrumental – till the seventh minute – “Overture / Whirlwind”, then, believe me, I did enjoy the remaining sixty seven minutes, although I’m not all for this progressive mania which rules Europe for almost a decade now.

It must be noted that “The Whirlwind” was released in a double digipack edition, with a second c.d. containing eight studio tracks, four new ones and four covers (Beatles, Genesis, Santana and Procol Harum).
