I don’t know how it happens but lately I seem to run into Marillion or somewhere near them. At first it was Steve Rothery and his “The Wishing Tree” project, then it was “Less Is More”, the acoustic Marillion album and now I’ve been handed this e.p., which is a three musicians project; one of them is Steve Vantsis, bass guitarist for Fish, whilst another one (Dave Stewart – drums), was playing for the huge singer, for more than half of the last decade. These two, along with guitarist Robin Boult, have formed Tilt.
“Million Dollar Wound” is their first release, a five songs e.p., which astounded me. Five pieces, where you find infinite thing to admire. Heavy, carefully… raw Rock, amazing guitars with endless and passionate riffs and solos, master musicians technique, big sound and a unique combination of raw and melancholic atmosphere. An additional help to this one is being provided by three exceptional singers on back vocals, Paul Dourley, Holly Tomás and Kaela Rowan.
All those ingredients were written and bind in a, admirable way, by Steve Vantsis himself, featuring a production recital, by the man who’s taken care of music and production of “13th Star”, released by Fish.
However, we have more… Fish on this e.p.. Guitarists Frank Usher (Fish band) and grand John Wesley of Porcupine Tree, appearing as guests. Irvin Duguit (ex Stiltskin) is also a guest here (keyboards). With all that I’m only trying to imagine what’s next, when the full length will be released. What more could I ask for?
