Aerosmith, Livan
Karaiskaki Stadium, Athens, Greece
20/06/2010

Two words…Steven Tyler…what can we say…? The man is the abridgment of a frontman, a complete performer and in a lot of ways the essence of Aerosmith as we know it. Haven’t we heard enough rumors lately about Tyler’s mental and health, in general, condition? Personally, I was a little reserved in regards with what I should expect from him but luckily I was not only pleasantly surprised but the man has climbed even higher to my personal list of great rock n rollers (in which, he was already among the top positions…). Right beside him was the always cool Joe Perry that changed constantly guitars and traveled us with his mesmerizing, blues-based trademark guitar solos. Whitford, Hamilton and Kramer put on a superb performance and helped in creating a sensational atmosphere in the stadium where the unsuspected Greek fans (15.000 and more in number) were chanting, singing along and dancing to the barrage of hits that the Bostonians had in the sleeves for us.

Needless to say that when Tyler held a Greek flag the crowd went bezerk…I felt like I was watching a two-hour video-clip as Steven Tyler did all his usual moves, screamed like there was no tomorrow and sang with Perry…this was 80s MTV, baby! All in all, it was a fantastic show, a rock n roll party, a hard to describe in cold words experience that only huge rock n roll bands can offer so freely…

We were so lucky to watch one of the best concerts to take place in Greece ever. Aerosmith proved that they’ve earned their chops rightfully, while they are the last of a dying rockstar breed.

Apart from the granted quality, and class of the band, everything went great with sufficient guidance towards the entrances of the stadium, avoiding tensions, and congestion. If only the sound was better in the beginning, and we didn’t have to squeeze our way out through the ‘back door’, the promoters would have been awarded with an “A+”.

I was truly impressed by the full out attack with Love In An Elevator”, “Back In The Saddle” and “Falling In Love (Is Hard On The Knees)”, as well as the relative apathy from the audience. What usually is a pretty warm, and wild crowd, didn’t feel the rush of adrenaline before listening to “Crying”, “Crazy”, and “I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing”, as well watching Tyler covered in a Greek flag. Unfortunately, it seems that the total domination of Maiden, Scorpions, and…tsifteteli has deprived us from a wider “rock culture”, although the attendance exceeded even the more optimistic expectations, which is very positive!

Livan that opened the show followed the fate of supporting acts in big concerts, facing the general indifference of the audience. Still, they showed some good qualities, although they were totally alien to Aerosmith style-wise.

In an nutshell, I’d like to write again that we were so lucky to have witnessed that concert. If you didn’t make it, then you should bang your head to the nearest wall. You won’t find that kind of magic often…when did Tyler say they are coming back?
