What we have here is another, typical industry game. A little while after the release of the live c.d., here comes the DVD. Needless to say of course, that the DVD contains more material thna the c.d. What’s left for the unlucky UFO fan who wants to have everything from his favorite band? He heads to the nearest record store and buys the DVD, too. We are talking about “Showtime”, which was first released in c.d. and then came the DVD format. Does it worth the trouble (or should I say Euros?) to buy both discs?

The first DVD contains the exact same concert as the one that appears in the c.d. So, please refer to the c.d. review and let me just say, from the visual point of view, that this isn’t a super show on stage. That was never the case with UFO, after all. It was their unique feeling that won you over! And a great portion of this feeling is ther on that concert, despite the small stage with its only accesoire a huge UFO logo in the far end of the stage. The best part of this first disc is the live rendition of “Rock Bottom: displaying 5 great musicians who jam on stage and improvise in classic rock style! The first DVD also includes a small biography/discography and a 5-minute segment of how the DVD was shot.

The second DVd is probably more interesting. First of all, it includes 6 live versions of songs played live in the studio (Pack it up and go, Try me, Love to love, Slipping away, Cherry, Proffesion of violence) and some backstage scenes. Playing with the menu one can find a 30-minute narrative part of Mogg/Way/Raymond showcasing some of the band’s known and unknown facts, while excerpts of UFO’s recent visits in Europe and USA are intercepted. Mogg talks about his influences, Way about his drug problems, Moore about his first guitar, a moved Jason Bonham about his superb father and more.

I must add the inclusion of English subtitles in the interviews that helps the foreign viewer to watch easier the program. Now, you will ask me if it worths the money or trouble to buy the DVD. If UFO is among your favorite bands, then definitely you should buy the product. If you just wanted the new live UFO disc, and you bought the c.d., then next time don’t be in such a hurry!
