We live in a country where the chances of seeing a band in its absolute prime are minimal given the geographical (and not only) conditions. And if that band comes from USA and is sonically adjacent to the wider hard rock genre, then the equation becomes even more difficult. Starbenders is a band from Atlanta, Georgia and they are already counting a full decade of a productive career with 3 full-length albums and as many EPs to their credit. In fact, here at Rockpages we had done an extensive feature on their latest work “Take Back The Night” and hosted an interview with the super talented frontwoman, Kimi Shelter.

On September 13th they will pay us a visit for the second time in an 18-month period. Back then they had opened for Palaye Royale in two concerts that are still remembered by many people. Starbenders is a quality band on all levels but if we had to mention the three main points that make them stand out from the rest of the bands of their generation, these are the following:

a) Their unique sound that includes elements of many different styles thus forming an excellent sound palette. Modern Hard Rock, Gothic, New Wave, Glam Rock etc. make up the sound of Starbenders and the result is nothing less than impressive.

b) The explosive Kimi Shelter that reminds us of times when the frontwoman at the concerts used to fascinate the eyes with her stage presence. I’ve written this before but I think it’s worth mentioning again: she’s something in between Susanna Hoffs (Bangles) and Stevie Nicks (Fleetwood Mac).

c) Most importantly, the incredible live shows which further highlight the studio versions of their songs.

For these reasons (and not only, of course) you absolutely should not miss their performance in Athens on September the 13th. They will be joined by Bad Habits; the perfect warm-up act I could think of for this event. The ticket is cheap, the day is perfect and excuses are unnecessary. Are you ready for a heavy dose of Rock N’ Roll? We certainly are…
