Black Eyed Sons is a new band with a history of…35+ years old! Yes, you read that right. Basically, we’re talking about The Quireboys that, after a falling out and bickering with their lead singer Spike back in 2022, decided to start fresh. Their guitarist Guy Griffin took over vocal duties for the album “And The Band Rolls On” which was never released simply because The Quireboys decided to burn bridges with the past, rename themselves Black Eyed Sons (fans of the band know, of course, where the name came from) and release “Cowboys in Pinstripe Suits”.
And we may have a new beginning here but believe me the material is clearly and completely unabashedly classic The Quireboys! We’re talking about songs based on their trademark piano and songs you’d easily want to listen to in a west London pub (and not only of course) while drinking a beer with some mates. That was, after all, the aesthetic of The Quireboys right from the very early days, wasn’t it? In this new beginning, The Black Eyed Sons enlisted the help of some illustrious friends and so for example we have Joe Elliott on the title track which sounds like Mott The Hoople (or maybe Down N’ Outz), we have Mike Tramp on “Your True Colors” which sounds like it came from a solo album by the White Lion singer, we have Dan Reed on “So Glorious” and many more.
“Cowboys in Pinstripe Suits” is an old-fashioned, British album that obviously refers to The Quireboys and artists like The Stones, Rod Stewart, Rose Tattoo etc. where pure rock n’ roll meets the British spirit through the experience of Griffin/Guerin/Weir/Nick & Pip Mailing. Such records have stopped coming out en masse since the last century and we need them!
Highlight: Josh Todd, Ryan Roxie, Scotti Hill, Chip Z’Nuff are some of the other special guests.
