Saturday at Fuzz Club was a night of southern sounds and beer drinking.
The event began with Full House Brew Crew, whose frontman Vagelis Karzis has been playing bass in Rotting Christ for a few years. Joining him on lead guitar is Panos Spanos (Resurgency, ex Suicidal Angels). Their stuff was cool, although a little bit too close to Black Label Society in certain songs here and there. Other than that, their sound was impressive (the best of the night, especially the drums), plus they delivered a solid cover of Godsmack’s ‘Awake’.
Potergeist came next. With their new album, ‘Crocodile Tears’, fresh in my ears, I really enjoyed their set. In my opinion they have the right type of compositions to be interesting for all the different ‘tribes’ of heavy music fans. ‘Visit from a Swampire’ is a great song, and extra props to their frontman for his presence.

Around 22:30, with ‘The Boys Are Back in Town’ by Thin Lizzy playing over the PA, Pepper Keenan, Woody Weatherman, Mike Dean and Reed Mullin came onto the stage. Corrosion of Conformity visited our country not too long ago, but the difference is obvious: With Keenan in the lineup, COC is a different beast and I believe that Pepper himself is at his best at this role, in this band. As expected the setlist was based mostly on ‘Deliverance’ and ‘Wiseblood’, therefore we had the chance to hear songs such as ‘Albatross’, ‘Clean My Wounds’, ‘Goodbye Windows’ etc.
The only negative thing about the experience isn’t too hard to guess, it was the sound; I can’t remember another show where the support acts had better sound than the headlining group.
Anyways, the – not that impressive – amount of people that showed up saw a band that, even though their peak was almost 20 years ago, is in great shape. Let’s see what will be their future after this tour is over.
