I believe Dir En Grey is aimed at a specific and needless to say limited audience. Both the experimental sound and the lyrics in Japanese is a guarantee that the band’s music is not an easy listen.

It’s hard to categorize “Dum Spiro Spero” in any of the extreme metal genres because it combines many different characteristics. You’ll hear anything from deathcore to progressive rock and gothic melodies within 70 minutes and still there is not a single one memorable moment because the tempo shifts all the time. After three careful listening sessions I appreciate a lot the dark atmosphere and Kyo’s vocal variety. The guy can growl, shriek or use his clean vocals EASILY!

So if you dig complicated songs, check this Japanese outfit.
