Electric Temple is a supergroup of sorts since its members have left their credentials in bands like W.A.S.P., Ace Frehley Band, Last in Line, Kix etc. In addition, their debut album is being released by the stable value of Eonian Records. So, as you can understand, all the omens were on our side for an album that was expected to be at least very good. Unfortunately, however, the final result did not live up to our expectations, or at least not to the extent we would have liked.
“High Voltage Salvation” may include uplifting hard rock compositions (with metal outbursts here and there) but all of them without exception can’t escape from a detrimental and in some parts indifferent character. On the other hand, the performance of the members in the studio is flawless -which was expected- but this can in no way save the lot. A few good ideas combined by a remarkable performance on the part of Andrew Freeman are not able to highlight the tracks of “High Voltage Salvation” which I think is doomed to fade into obscurity.
Perhaps these are somewhat harsh words for a band (or is it a project?) that is now taking its first steps but when you are dealing with musicians of the calibre of Starr, Duda, Freeman, Childs then you can only expect excellence and songs accompanied by superlatives. Personally, I can’t give “High Voltage Salvation” a positive rating because of a golden mediocrity of compositions. I hope for a better second album…if there is one!
Highlight: Even the cover artwork depicts a clever idea which unfortunately fails to deliver the initial concept.
