Hail Spirit Noir - Eden In Reverse

Every album by Hail Spirit Noir is unique, impressive and different from any other, it is actually pure art that goes beyond the usual music genres. The greek progsters offer once more a palette of sounds and emotions, like a train ride that you wou don’t know the final stop but you get excited traveling with it again and again.

And so it is once more, on “Eden In Reverse” the amazing band from Thessaloniki not only keeps us from being disappointed but they managed to maintain (on their fourth album) the same high quality standards -by all means- they always had. But what does this mean? It means not only a great variety between the tracks (no surprise that if you listen just one song you can’t really have the full picture of the album) but also within the tracks as they play some weird games with rhythm, the keyboard layers, the amazing guitar riffing etc

The only difference with their previous works is the lack of brutal vocals but this is not really a bad thing as everything seems to work fine here as it’s been a long time since they were an experimental black metal band. They actually have different layers of vocals, along with the lovely vocals of Dimitris Dimitrakopoulos we can hear the alternate style of Cons Marg’s vocals and of course on “Crossroads” the guest vocals of Lars Nedland (Borknagar, Solefald).

Hail Spirit Noir have a unique sound and prog rock/metal is never enough to describe their retro futuristic sound that keeps bring back scenes from Carpenter’s movies. Less psychedelic this time but still covered by an avant-garde veil they add dark synth-rock on their space/prog rock. On the lyrics field they alternate the story of Eden through a (really) weird point of view with Darwinian beasts showing the way and amazing compositions like on “Crossroads” that leave the listener speechless or the transitions on “The First Ape on New Earth” that makes you dizzy in a good way or the epic closing with “Automata 1980”. Impressive drumming by Fivos while this time the band has a second keyboard player (Sakis Mpantis from Horizon’s End).
