It has been Frontiers’ tactic for several years to come up with various incarnations of so-called supergroups. Heroes and Monsters is another case of such a supergroup and fortunately for all of us though, it’s not a…classic case of “hit n’ miss” but the first remarkable hard rock album of 2023. Heroes and Monsters is the name of the band consisting of the great singer/bassist Todd Kerns (Slash/Bruce Kulick/The Age of Electric), the brilliant guitarist Stef Burns (Alice Cooper / Y&T) and the fantastic drummer Will Hunt (Evanescence, Slaughter, Vince Neil) and this is their first self-titled work…

The disc consists of 10 well-crafted hard rock compositions that exude a modern air but have their solid foundations in the 80s and in bands like Warrant, Mr. Big but also AC/DC since 2-3 compositions have this characteristic riff-like, boogie style of the legendary band. All three musicians are really impressive and flawless but I have to give a special mention to the incredible Kerns who is truly one of the best frontmen/perfromers of the (relatively) younger generation.

I don’t know if Heroes and Monsters will manage to bring their music to the masses (I sincerely hope they will do so) or if they will carve a path as a normal band (and not a one-off project) but their debut definitely should draw the attention of the entire global hard rock community. As we mentioned in the introduction, here we have the first strong hard rock album for 2023…make that, the first ass-kicking hard rock album of 2023

Highlight: The dynamic of the band is perfectly captured in the video-clips that are available on YouTube…
