It’s been almost a decade since we last heard something new from Molly Hatchet despite the fact that they remain active in the musical forefront. The legendary band is on constant tour in both Europe and USA although the loss of Dave Hlubek (2017) and Phil McCormack (last April) were really devastating and crucial in the overall function of Molly Hatchet as it seems that Bobby Ingram is now the one who’s calling all the business and artistic shots.

“Battleground” is essentially McCormack’s swan song and it’s been recorded in Switzerland, Germany and USA during Molly Hatchet’s 40th Anniversary Tour. Needless to say that this is a magnificent concert that captures the unique southern spirit as only Molly Hatchet can deliver! The veteran musicians perform flawlessly all the classic songs from the band’s illustrious career with such songs as Whiskey Man”, “Son Of The South”, “Devil’s Canyon”, Beatin’ The Odds”, and the closing track “Flirtin’ With Disaster” reminding us all why they remain all-time classics! Personally, I am also a fan of the latter era and I must underline that the live version of the superb “Justice” (2010) is absolutely amazing.

All in all, this is an essential release for all the fans of the southern rock sound and not only as it is more or less a greatest hits live package. Phil would certainly be so proud…
