Less than two years after their last visit, Monster Magnet, this time with a new record under their belts, returned to Athens pleasing all motherfuckers everywhere.

Full House Brew Crew started things off. Their big fat riffs and Zakk Wylde inspired tricks were delivered perfectly. Their new album, ‘Me Against You’, shows great growth compared to their debut, especially in the vocal department. Frontman Vagelis Karzis has gained tons of experience touring around the globe with Rotting Christ, and it shows in the way he’s carrying himself around the stage.

At 22:15, the Bull God’s reincarnation on earth and his trusted companions started playing ‘Dopes to Infinity’. Dave Wyndorf was once again on top form, with his trademark stage presence being enough to make the world 10% cooler than it usually is.
We only heard two ‘Mindfucker’ songs, but, while ‘Rocket Freak’ didn’t seem to click, I would put down ‘When the Hammer Comes Down’ as one of the highlights of the evening.

My complaints with Monster Magnet have always been the same: ‘Safe’ choices for the setlist and the show’s slightly short duration result in many, many great songs being left out, even though this time we got a couple of nice instrumental surprises, with ‘Ego, the Living Planet’ and ‘CNN War Theme’.
The following statement, however, is still as true as ever: Monster Magnet’s live shows are by far the best party hosted by a 60-year-old from New Jersey that you could ever attend.
