Phase reverse return with their full length studio album, ‘Phase III: Youniverse’. I believe it is their strongest work so far, songwriting and production wise.
They label their music as Southern European Pentatonic Heavy Metal, and although I usually keep a certain distance when I see that many adjectives, it does actually describe their sound. The foursome from Athens will remind you of bands such as Pepper Keenan – era Corrosion of Conformity as well as Black Label Society, but not in an exaggerated – tribute kind of way.
Opening track ‘Downfall’ is a good representation of the record, with its acoustic melody in the introduction (and later on during the song) being one of the highlights. Other great moments include the weird, Greek flavored instrumental ‘Miroloi’, bluesy atmospheric track ‘Acheron’s Deep’ and the title track.
