Power metal from Greece? Where do I sign? As soon as this album was announced it immediately went on my listening list. And what a pleasant surprise it was listening to it, I must say!
Powercross are coming to us from Athens. It may be a newly formed band, from 2022, but its members have been around for a long time. The Lost Empire is their debut album with 8 compositions and just under 40 minutes of duration.
Musically moving as I mentioned they fit into the power metal, europower genre, with the necessary neoclassical touches on the guitars and their solos. The compositions are well written, quite straightforward with excellent melodies. Tracks like the title track, “Nightlight” and “Final Storm” stick in the mind without of course the others lacking.
Listening to The Lost Empire felt like listening to Silent Winter’s first album. Powercross reminded me why I love Europower, a genre that rarely gives us such strong albums anymore. A must-have for the genre fans’ collection.
