You can say whatever you want about Rob Zombie but the man has succeeded all these years in creating his own musical institution by being one of the forerunners of the industrial movement and not being afraid at the same time of blending various genres thus bringing an explosive sonic result. Most definitely the glory days of “Hellbilly Deluxe” and “Sinister Urge” are long gone but Zombie remains creative, imaginative and most importantly provocative. One can never be sure of what to expect from every single Rob Zombie record and “The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Orgy Dispenser” is not an exception to the rule.
The inspired song-titles, his love for the B’ movies of science fiction and horror, the rock n’ roll aesthetics, the groovy industrial musical style and the ever characteristic raspy vocals are wonderfully blended with John 5’s sharp guitar work. Unfortunately, this time around the element of total surprise isn’t present as the listener almost knows beforehand what he is about to listen. On another negative aspect, the total duration of the album is relatively short (31 minutes) with the pure musical side being even shorter. Contrary to all that, we should positively evaluate the fact that this must be one of the heaviest works of Rob Zombie and it is quite reminiscent of his early solo work and his latter collaboration with White Zombie.
All in all, I’d say that this is a fine piece of art by Rob Zombie although I’d have preferred to be treated with a more surprising bunch of songs…after all, the man himself has created through the years a high level of expectations.
Highlight: The sheer reading of the song titles is enough to challenge…Meat Loaf into a battle for the longest song titles ever!
