In the wake of Sahara’s 30th anniversary of “Going Crazy”, 20th Century Music reissues the band’s debut album adding lots of bonus stuff. For those of you out there who are not familiar with the Sahara name let’s just sat that this was an American outfit that released two excellent albums during the period of 1992-1994 (although they’d been around since the late 80s). A couple of familiar names can be found here: keyboardist Diane Arens of the Warlord fame (known back then as The Sentinel) and vocalist-extraordinaire Liz Vandall who is known to the all the Scorpions fans due to her working and personal relationship with Uli Jon Roth.

The thing with Sahara was that they were at the wrong place at the wrong time. They were playing a melodic prog metal style that was quite reminiscent of Queensryche but back in 1988 -and especially in Los Angeles- that genre was not popular at all. Another thing was that when they finally secured a record contract and released their two albums the musical climate has changed, and grunge music reigned supreme. Well, such things happened to lots of bands back then but we are glad that after 30 years there is still interest for this great band. The reissue is packed with extra audio and visual material thus making its purchase even more imperative! So, we are treated with a few tracks cued mainly from the 1988 demo tape while the most interesting aspect is the bonus DVD as we get to see Sahara in live action during the band’s European tour with Virgin Steele plus behind the scenes footage from the recording of “Going Crazy”! How cool is that? And all this come in a really detailed booklet with many photos and lots of info regarding that period in Sahara’s career.

All in all, if you don’t have the rare first press of the album, this is a great opportunity to own this stellar record. Trust us when we are saying: you won’t regret it and you will enjoy once again those well-crafted compositions.

Highlight: There are also two vinyl versions of this reissue.
