Shotgunz were formed in 2009 in Greece and they released their debut album from ROAR records in 2015 with the exceptional title “Based On A True Story”. The band is mostly a stoner-southern band, and I feel they are really influenced by bands like Black Label Society, especially in the first three songs. “Rock n’ Rolla” is one of the best tracks of the album and has been released as a video clip.
The sound production is decent enough and the most tracks will immediately arouse the curiosity of the stoner audience. I strongly believe though that Shotgunz haven’t found their own personal sound yet, and the singer needs to work a bit on his voice so he can stand out from all the other stoner bands in Greece.
For now, I am not that impressed by “Based On A True Story”, but given some more effort, I am sure they can go much higher and release a second album that will gather more people into their music.
One interesting fact: before they even released their debut album, they opened for Gus G in 2014, receiving many good reviews. They have also shared the stage with well-established musicians of the Greek music scene such as Lakis Papadopoulos, Dimitris Poulikakos, Tsopana Rave and more.
