It took them a bit longer than we all expected but it was worth the wait! Finally, the debut of Sirius is a fact. 7 years after the excellent EP “Wings Of Fire” the band returns with their first full length work. But let’s take a closer look at things in more detail.
The album “Quest For Life” includes 8 compositions of classic heavy metal. It is rough, heavy and dense. Seriously, it’s not every day that you hear such volume in a classic metal album, since we are used to such productions by bands of a more extreme sound. The album doesn’t lack melody but it cannot be described as a melodic album. The compositions are solid, with an excellent rhythm section. If you add Dimitris Napa’s voice to the mix the result is quite “primitive”, I dare say. Maybe, it might bring to mind the works of Grand Magus to some people.
Lyrically, the album’s main focus is the search for the meaning of life, the choices each of us is called upon to make and the results of these choices. Personally, I think the meaning of life is tasty giros with pita, but that’s definitely another discussion. It’s worth noting that the album features two important guests on the album; Tim “Ripper” Owens on “Unbound The Scream” and Derek Sherinian on “Land Of Swords”. Both put their personal touch on these songs.
It’s clear that “A Quest For Life” is a deliberately “sloppy” album. Behind its roughness, it is obvious that it has been worked down to the smallest detail. After all, the members of the band have plenty of experience. I think it is an excellent debut album that deserves the attention of the audience and is worth the time of listening.
