Apart from the 40’ long delay until the venue’s doors finally opened it seemed there weren’t gonna be a sold out night, something weird this was one of the most important goth rock gig in Athens this winter. Those who came early were lucky enough though because the opening act was a great greek goth rock band, OPENED PARADISE. The Athenians were formed back in 2003 and although their studio recordings are not many they have shared the stage with many big names like Nephilim, Clan of Xymox, Type O Negative etc

They started their show with “Senseless” from their debut album “Occult” (2004) but it was when they played songs from my personal favorite “Buried In Rain” (2016) that I really liked them the most. Bathed in red light for most time (it helps to create nice atmosphere even though it is a nightmare for photographers) they performed nicely their stuff. I also liked “Omega” from their EP Tides (2012) that I have missed back then for some reason. I have a felling they could add one two more songs but most probably the delay at the beginning forced them to play a shorter set.

So, at 22:30 we were ready to watch THE NOSFERATU. The British goth band took us back to the early 1990s and a nostalgic trip begun. The reunion of the original lineup pleased many of their old fans as we knew that this was a great chance to listen songs from the legendary albums “The Rise” and “Legend”. Vlad Janicek (bass) had a sense of unfinished business to take care of so he decided to stop keeping himself any longer in a self imposed exile. So here he is, along with Louis DeWray (vocals), took the vampire on the road again. With them on stage we saw Rob Leydon (Red Sun Revival) that was great on the guitars, Anastasia Resurrection (Down From Above) on backing vocals and Chris Clark on drums.

They decided to begin with two tracks from the emblematic “Rise” setting quickly the proper mood for everyone with crowd’s reactions showing this is a nice goth night. I didn’t know what to expect from Louis DeWray but he was really good on vocals, leading the show with his performance. Their setlist was based on the two legendary albums (Rise, Legend) with some new songs from an upcoming release that merged nicely with the old stuff. But it was only during the main riff of “Siren” when the fans got more active and then after “Close” that played three great (in tempo) that left everyone in the club with great aftertaste. “Lucy Is Red” was always my favorite song by them and although the DJs back in the day refusing to play this one it was really a joy to listen it live.
