Simple, stripped-down, and unembellished—that’s how I’d describe Throne of Iron’s second album. In fact, it doesn’t differ much from their debut nearly five years ago.
The band is the brainchild of singer/guitarist Tucker Thomasson, who, inspired by the passing of the great Mark Shelton, initially launched Throne of Iron as a one-man project before evolving it into a full-fledged band.
Now, in 2025, they return with their second full-length album. Musically, Throne of Iron operates within the realm of traditional heavy metal in its most straightforward, almost primitive form. The compositions are simple but well-crafted, and what the band lacks in technical prowess, they more than make up for with passion. Because one thing is clear—Adventure Two is a labor of love.
However, my main issue is that everything on this album feels familiar. The material is standard fare; while there are no outright weak tracks, none left a lasting impression. Perhaps their music shines more in a live setting, beer in hand, where the raw energy can truly be felt.
To my ears, Throne of Iron still has many adventures ahead before they level up their skills enough to conquer a major campaign. (And if you got that reference, you’re in the right place).
