At a time when we tend to question the value of live albums, the NWOBHM legends decide to release one of these and it’s actually a gem.

What if only Rob Weir is left in the line-up from the past? The Tygers struck gold with the discovery of Jack Mellie, who took over the mic almost 20 years ago. The band bursts into flames when they take the stage and that’s exactly what comes across to the listener of “Live Blood”. Of course, what’s most impressive is the passage of almost the entire career of the Newcastle band in this hearty set that we enjoy on the album. What is a great credit to the Tygers is that the newer songs they play stand up well alongside the classics. “Destiny” and “Only The Brave” go down perfectly along with “Gangland”, “Do It Good” and “Suzie Smiled” with the band showing that in addition to the past, they have a rich present and hopefully a greataa future.

It’s no coincidence that Tygers Of Pan Tang have released four studio albums in the last decade keeping a pretty good level of quality across the board. Sure, they’ll never match the legendary “Spellbound”, “Wild Cat” or “Crazy Nights”, but how many bands nowadays can compete with their 40-something year old past? Their tenacity, consistency and continuity have justified them so far.

“Live Blood” oozes energy, passion and grit from start to finish and undoubtedly makes you want to see them live… yesterday! If you get the chance don’t miss them!
