The GREat singer is back! It’s been three years, solo albums-wise, as we had the pleasure to listen to his work with Symfonia last year. It’s most unfortunate that the super band didn’t make it to a sophomore, thus the Brazilian artist got back to his other works in progress, hence this album!
I have written that Matos could sing the phone book and he would still sound amazing. His voice is huge, his voice color unique, the sweetness coming out of that larynx is breathtaking. Superb vocalist is once more working together with his buddy Hugo Mariutti, the two of them also arranged the album co-production. Production was handled by the usual suspects, Brendan Duffey and Adriano Daga.
First three songs are thunderous! Running, galloping, some tribal drumming is also involved and then… it’s open season! Especially the title track is pure fire! Amazing structure and terrific playing. I’ve got a question though. Is Andre’s voice a bit lower in the mixing? Those of you already heard, please advise. Then it’s ballad time. “Gaza” is the name and I really don’t want to listen anymore, I’m bored! Matos is singing beautifully, with passion, but… thanks, no thanks…
“Stop!” moves forwards with a mighty melodic chorus, it’s almost AOR and leaves the room for “On your own”, with its most interesting intro and the piano living with the guitar in complete harmony. It’s a bit Floyd-ish this one… Love the guitar solo…
“Unreplaceable” and we floor the accelerator; verse is not that exciting, then we run some more and end up with a “simply cute” chorus. Main riff is awesome though. Even more awesome: “Oversoul”, featuring that splendid riff. And then the most “inappropriate” bridge enters, it’s a bit theatrical… It’s cool naturally, the artist has the right to express in mysterious ways.
Another ballad for the epilogue. It doesn’t really matter, the album is filled with songs that we’re gonna love. Welcome back, Andre!
