Burning Witches Witch Of The North

This is the fifth album for Burning Witches who have found their path. This is singer’s Laura Guldemond second album with the band offering some more grain and growls that fit like a glove to the Witches’ classic metal. The truth is that this album sounds a bit more epic than their previous works. Midtempo songs dominate and the rhythm guitars raise hell.

The lyrical themes are based on fantasy worlds where druids, witches (obviously), elves, spells, dragons, dark rituals and deep mystical forests are the protagonists. The self-descriptive “United We Stand” and “Circle Of Five” are the exceptions to the rule.

“Flight Of Valkyries” is one of the songs that stand out with its acoustic intro, which may sound that it will lead to a ballad, but actually brings a full-on attack. The also ballad-like “Lady Of The Wood” splits the album in two by bringing the tempo down a notch or two, but without lacking intensity, since it’s build-up is based on power.

Unfortunately, the second half of the album is lacking on quality, however the cover of the all-time classic “Hall Of The Mountain King” closes the album on a high note.
