Graven Sin fell in my radar from a post of Nicholas Leptos who’s the singer of the band. Keeping in mind how much I like his voice I rushed to hear what this new project is all about. After the initial spins of the album, I have to say that I was far from disappointed since their debut album is a fine piece of music.

Graven Sin are an international three-piece act. On the drums we have Ville Markkanen and, on the bass, and guitar we have Ville Pystynen, both coming from the lovely Finland. As I’ve mentioned earlier, none other than our own, Nicholas Leptos handles the vocal duties. This project started back in 2021.

Music-wise the trio is laying their foundation on doom metal and rarely the tempo breaks the normal speed of the genre. However, the sound is enriched with many elements. For starters we have a quite classic heavy metal approach in most of the compositions, while keys here and there add an additional color to the overall sound. Now, add to the equation the rather theatrical voice of Nicholas and you get a really interesting outcome.

The album runs for nearly an hour, but Graven Sin manage not to repeat themselves and get boring at any moment. There’s a lot of variety in their music that makes the listening of the album a quite smooth experience. The well played guitar solos fit perfectly. Doom metal is a genre that me personally tires way to easily. This doesn’t happen here!

If I had to pick a couple of tunes out of the bunch, I’d go with “The Morrigan”, “Beyond Mesopotamia” and “She Who Rules Niflheim”, while all the rest follow up close.

“The Veil Of The Gods” is a very interesting debut album for a band that manages to have a quite personal sound from their early steps. Aside the CD version there’s a double vinyl version and of course you can always find it on digital platforms.
