At last, the time has come for King’s X to release their first live DVD, and double audio CD. This audio edition we really have in our hands is a very interesting one. I don’t believe that King’s X need an introduction, but I could say briefly that they are a very good American three piece of the progressive hard rock idiom. Since their debut in 1988 they release new works regularly, impressing us every time with their wealth in fresh ideas that they present. This double CD features some essential songs spanning from their entire career, such as the classics “Summerland”, “Pleiades”,” Lost in Germany”, “Dogman”, “Looking For Love”, “Goldilox”, “Black Flag”, all in strong – fascinating versions that manage to maintain the spontaneity of a concert, differing from the studio versions. In this fact contributes a lot the prolific interpretation of singer and bass player Doug Pinnick, that reminds us Phil Lynott at some points, also showing his Hendrix influences, and always tamping the songs with his own unique way. As leading moments it deserves to be marked the 13 min version of ‘Over my head’ with the band’s classic jamming, but also the astonishing and almost poetic version of ‘What is this?’! Listening to the CD was really like going to a King’s X concert, and I suppose this is the most important virtue of a live recording such as this. It also proposed hands down as a great first contact with the band, since its value is much bigger than any compilation CD.
