Michael Bormann is a tireless artist. This is an aspect of his personality that I really admire and it is enforced by the fact that the fruition of his works is nothing less than sensational albums…at least, most of the times.

His new album is really captured by its titled…“Different” –a word that is intentionally divided in the cover by dashes to emphasize on this differentiation- is not by any means the best album that Bormann has ever recorded. We can only guess that this is really an experimentation for possible future plans. If I had to compare this musical turn with another artist, I’d say that it kinda reminds me of Bon Jovi’s case after “Have A Nice Day” (which was succeeded by “Lost Highway”).

“Different” sounds nerveless and there are only a few moments where it reminds the outbursts of Jaded Heart (for instance “Breathless” and “Who Really Wants To Get Older”). Maybe, Bormann is trying with this one to attract another audience, mainly from the other side of the Atlantic.

As a careful follower of Bormann’s career, I’d expected something more in the vein of Rain or Zeno (superb albums) and I hope that Bormann will follow that route, if he is no longer interested in those Jaded Heart days…
