Who could have expected it, right? It seems like everything can be achieved in this world (even a reconciliation between Axl and Slash). Riot returns with a brand new record and with an old line-up and this is not yet another line-up but the one that recorded the immortal “Thundersteel” and the mighty “The Privilege of Power”. Mark Reale, the man who kept the Riot name alive through thick and thin, called up his old buddies from the late 80s, hit the studio and recorded “Immortal Soul” with a clear direction and inclination to recapture that feeling and remind us all of the golden era for the band.

The opening track (appropriately named after the band’s…well, name) openly flirts with “Thundersteel” while at the same time there are moments in there (like for instance the ultra melodic and brilliant at the same time “Still Your Man”) that recreate the atmosphere of that classic record. Jarzombek’s stomping drum beats and Moore’s voice takes us back in time and generally speaking Riot’s return is more than successful…“Immortal Soul” talks straight to our heart!

Highlight: Tony Moore is also behind the design of the cover sleeve.
