In March 2010, Greek newspaper “Real News” had exclusively issued Scorpions farewell studio album “Sting In The Tail 5 days ahead of the global release date. 20 months later, the same newspaper strikes back with Scorpions “encore-album”. The German legends, after their ultra-successful tour of the highly acclaimed “Sting In The Tail”, felt the need to hit the studio for one last gift to their fans…thus came “Comeblack”!

This is an album consisting of 13 songs, 7 of which are re-recording versions of Scorpions’ timeless hits while the rest of the bunch are cover tunes of some of the most beloved bands that influenced the taste of the German quintet. In regards with the re-recordings, all we can say is that they remain true to the original versions (although one can really tell the difference in the production department). As for the renditions, well…as it happens in similar cases, some of the them hit the bull right between the eye and fit with the overall band image and atmosphere (eg. “All Day And All Of The Night” (The Kings), “Tainted Love” (Gloria Jones)) and some others fail to find the target (“Tin Soldier” (Small Faces)).

All in all, this is a pleasant…comeblack of the Scorpions that, naturally, doesn’t need to be analyzed thoroughly as it’s not a collection of new studio tracks.

Highlight: The diehard fans will definitely purchase (and) the French edition of the album…

I don’t know about you, but listening again to the classic Scorpions songs played again, the new versions aren’t something special, as well as the covers, that aren’t something special either, I got the craving to see them again live! Totally spontaneously, and naturally!

I must admit that I was shocked for a moment, when I listened to the opening of the all time favorite “Rhythm Of Love” stripped down, and a little weird, fearing that the Scorps spoiled the song, but when the “real” guitars kicked in I stopped worrying and cranked it up! Because, the Germans are not stupid to mess around with some of their most classic stuff, neither have the sense of humor of Helloween for  example to play them in a complete different way and alienate their fans.

As for the covers, I really can’t imagine that they ever thought they were going to be playing “Tainted Love”, but at the end of the day it wasn’t that bad, so why not? There is nothing left for them to prove. They’ve been there, done that, tasted the triumphs that a band could possibly enjoy, and managed to beat the fiercest enemy of them all, time!

When are they coming back?
