The legendary band will be honoured by Bohemian Football Club, who play in the Irish Premiere League, with their logo on the away shirt.
It is a tribute to Thin Lizzy and their monumental performance at Dalymount Park in Dublin, home of Bohemian, on 21 August 1977 and the album “Black Rose: A Rock Legend”.
The jersey will feature the Lizzy logo on the front of the shirt, while the lyric “Friday night they’ll be dressed to kill” is written on the back of the collar. The overall aesthetic is inspired by “Black Rose”, the work of Jim Fitzpatrick, who has done the covers for “Chinatown”, “Jailbreak”, “Johnny The Fox”, “Nightlife” and “Vagabonds Of The Western World”, with details on the sleeves and on the shirt, and an imitation ticket stub from the 1977 concert at the bottom right.
The look is available to order from Bohemian’s web store (https://www.shop-bohemianfc.com/) and costs 75 euros for adults, 35 for children.
A portion of the proceeds will be donated to support the spread of music to children housed in institutions in Dublin.
Daniel Lambert, Bohemian FC, COO: “We are delighted to unveil this jersey today following lots of work on the idea. The Lizzy concert at Dalymount has always been mentioned in any lists of the greatest Irish gigs of all time.
“For Dalymount Park, it was the first concert held at our famous venue, setting the path for the many famous gigs to follow through the 80s and 90s.
“Thin Lizzy are one of the greatest Irish bands of all time, and for many Phil the greatest Dubliner, to pay tribute to them and the gig on the shirt is brilliant.
“A very special thanks to Jim Fitzpatrick for his permission to use the Black Rose throughout, and to Des Kelly Interiors for their continued willingness to work with us on unique shirts.”
Not that Bohemian FC have previously launched an away kit honouring Irish band Fontaines DC, and reggae icon Bob Marley.
Now on Sale: Our 2024 away kit, testament to Thin Lizzy's famous 1977 gig at Dalymount Park.
Shirt sales will also raise funds to provide access to music for underprivileged children across Dublin City.
