I want to make it clear from the beginning that my musical tastes are mainly rock and metal and also that I am not a musician. My relationship with Robben Ford’s music is superficial, which means that I can listen to it but I will not go into the process of delving into it, simply because I am not in a position to do so. I had heard of Robben Ford mainly because of his participation in the recording of Kiss’ Creatures Of The Night in 1982 and from there I knew that he indulges and moves in blues primarily, but also in jazz paths.

Tasos Skouras opened the night at Fuzz and for about 40 minutes he presented to the audience that had already almost filled the club a blues set with his own songs and remarkable covers from which I singled out “Hold The Line (Toto) and Purple Haze (Jimi Hendrix).

Robben Ford and his two partners on drums and keyboards were admired by the audience for their perfect and clean playing. Maintained in excellent condition, he seemed untouched by the passage of time and truly mesmerized at every moment of his near ten minute, two-hour performance. He presented music from quite a wide range of his career, a practically enviable career maintaining an extremely communicative attitude towards the captive audience. The set included two covers, those of John Lennon’s “Jealous Guy” and Allen Toussaint’s “Fair Child”. You won’t read about techniques in his playing as well as his equipment and such here, but only about a guitarist whose quality was evident to even the most ignorant. This was helped by the excellent sound that was present and it was one of the rare times that no grumbling from the perpetual… “experts” came to my attention. As I bid farewell to the audience, everyone’s satisfaction was evident and, as much as I have not immersed myself in his music, I will seek to see him again at the next opportunity I get.

I am also obliged to give a special mention to the organization, it was really impeccable in all areas, making everything easy for people. I am immensely appreciative of a production that sets the bar high on its own!
