Back in the 80’s, on the other side of the Atlantic and more specifically in Los Angeles, countless bands sprang up with one obvious goal: to conquer equal success that Motley Crue, Quiet Riot, Ratt, etc. had achieved. The vast majority of them didn’t succeed despite the fact that they had “built” a solid fan base and played in packed clubs on the Sunset Strip (and beyond) while articles and special features in magazines like BAM, Rock City News, Screamer, Metal Edge etc. monopolized the interest of the American youth. Unfortunately, however, for every Motley Crue there are hundreds of other bands that have fallen into obscurity and fortunately for us, they are coming back into the limelight through Eonian Records. Taz is one such typical case.

These two (essentially) compilations contain all 35 songs recorded by Taz from 1986 to 1990. In fact, Rob Cavallo (and Kim Fowley) were behind the console, so the sound result is absolutely perfect. Beyond the studio recordings, 6 live tracks from Taz performances at the legendary Gazzari’s, Whisky A Go Go and Sasch in Studio City are included here. As for the purely musical aspect, imagine a mixture of the glam movement of the second half of the 80s combined with scattered punk, pop and early alternative elements and you get a good picture of what Taz was all about.

Taz is a well-hidden secret that is fully revealed with these releases. We can now enjoy in these 35 songs the talent and energy of a band that was destined for more things but fate had other plans for them.

Highlight: Cool 20-page CD booklet.
