Axl Rose tweeted that he is going to stop for a while to sign autographs because of the people cashing in ridiculous sums of money by selling signed stuff on eBay and similar websites. Axl wrote: “Can’t take da ebayers so un42nutzly I’s won’tz b signing things 4 awhile. Much Love 2 the real fans.”
Dealer Steve Woolf, in a talk with ABC News, estimated that it’s now a “$50 million a year industry,” with some collectors earning “six-figure salaries.” Other artists who follow the same strategy are Ted Nugent, Josh Homme and Kid Rock, who actually atacked a collector from Holywood, Mike Medlin, who told LA Weekly: “I got jumped by Kid Rock and seven of his security guys, I got my ass kicked.” Still there is the other side of the coin expressed by Taylor Swift on Wall Street Journal: “The only memento kids these days want is a selfie,” she wrote. “It’s part of the new currency, which seems to be how many followers you have on Instagram.”
