I haven’t been to a Soundtruck show since they opened for Lynyrd Skynyrd, so I wasn’t going to miss that opportunity to catch them live in a club atmosphere playing a full-set. Desert Dingos opened for them, showing that they’ve got the apettite and the enthusiasm, but they lack on experience, and ease on stage, while surely the bad sound didn’t help them at all.

They played some of their songs, but they didn’t announce most of them, so the audience, the majority of which I suspect haven’t heard of them before, didn’t know what they were playing. Their sound reminded me of Nashville Pussy, while they played some covers, from which Skynyrd’s “Still Unbroken” stood out. They made some mistakes, but surely it was a good choice that suited them. I am sure that if they work hard and loosen up a bit they will deliver something much better.

It was almost midnight when Soundtruck started their engine in front of almost 80 people who were waiting for them. The band had two changes in their lineup with Greg Apostolopoulos being the second guitarist, and Manos Matsos sitting behind the drums, replacing just for that show drummer George Kalaitzopoulos who was injured on car accident, and couldn’t play for the full show at least.

They played their entire debut album, as well as a new song and some covers for almost two hours. Despite the changes they weren’t affected at all, and aided by the crystal clear sound made the audience get closer, sing and even dance! Surprisingly, they played the recent single by the Rolling Stones, “Doom’n’Gloom”, and I am sure they begun one of the few artists who played that except of course Jagger/Richards’ gang. Allman Brothers’ “One Way Out” from their monumental album “Eat A Peach” was a great idea to cover, as well as “Snortin’ Whiskey” by Pat Travers. They also played songs by ZZ Top, Skynyrd, and AC/DC that were suitable, as well as Creedence Clearwater Revival’s personal favorite “Fortunate Son”.

On “Straight To Hell” George Kalaitzopoulos took off the harness from his injured hand and joined the band on drums, as he couldn’t stay out of action for any longer. So, even for one song Soundtruck’s new lineup made its official debut. The new song they played, “Seniorita”, sounded good, with a nice and powerful groove. Of course, it needs proper listening in order to come up with any conlusions.
Soundtruck is one of the most serious Greek bands of the genre and our expectations from them are always high. Surely, I, as well as them, would like to see more people in the club because they deserve it. Let’s hope with the appropriate moves and a strong new album they will rise higher in the local scene.
